The SAR program provides specialized search and rescue training to police, fire-rescue, EMS, emergency managers, volunteer SAR responders, and others who might have a duty to respond to a SAR emergency. Training courses are based upon performance standards recommended by the Virginia Search and Rescue Council and adopted by the agency.
The Virginia Department of Emergency Management coordinates a statewide network of professional Search and Rescue organizations whose volunteers train continually in the classroom or in the field. The group was founded in 1996 by Greg Fuller, and has grown into a national organization, based in Virginia, whose mission is to preserve the art and skills of tracking. As in the past, our members are instrumental in passing on the art and skills of tracking to interested individuals through various schools, their primary SAR teams and related type venues.
